In order to increase the number of homes being built, local councils will be given new powers to designate sites for large-scale development.

They have such power in local plans, they arnt producing local plans and are not promoting strategic sites?

So perhaps it is reviving Zoning so large site can be granted the equivalent of outline, with a masterplan, on plan adoption. This is sensible as every other country with planning in world now – even Scotland and Ireland, has such a power other than England and Wales. We of course have long advocated this.

In every other regard as we reported – the speech just repeats promise made in the 2019 Conservative Manifesto.
