Louise Goldsmith, a West Sussex county councillor, said: “The real serious problem, particularly in the south east, is the government believes in an economic theory that you build a lot of houses and therefore the price will drop. It’s flawed because land supply is limited.
Biggest load of bullshit I have ever heard. Its because land supply is limited artificially that housing is expensive. Land in England isnt running out. Several million years supply till we hit the sea.

This is not true in large parts of London, especial Inner/Central London. Land is limited where a borough is substantially built out, almost all development occurs as a result of redevelopment and, in particular, the rate of development is “rationed” not by planning but by the activity of developers. There are currently 300,000 units locked up in unimplemented consents, of which over 100,000 are in unimplemented tall buildings consents. What market housing gets built is aimed at the upper end of the market – trickle down does not happen.
You make the same mistake government was complaining about – OAN is measure of need, a startig point, not a target. If short=overspill.
