I was chatting to a senior civil servant the other day who insisted: “About one third of Green Belt land is of no great environmental value. It will have to be developed.
“There isn’t enough land in the Black Country or Birmingham for all the houses we need.”
He said the move to bulldoze our green fields would have to be led by a ‘courageous’ politician prepared to take unpopular decisions in the long-term interests of the region.
Shame he cant be named otherwise the Shropshire Star would have the scoop of the year!
So what ‘senior civil servant’ lives in the west mids – clue he lives in a bungalow.
